22 October 2012 The Festival has begun!

At 11 a.m. sharp the press conference with the organisers and the authoress Oksana Zabuzhko (who has already arrived in Krakow) opened this year’s edition of the Conrad Festival. Despite earlier announcements, Dubravka Ugresić was not present due to heavy fog at Balice airport. She is expected in Krakow later today.

Following the conference, Professor Michał Paweł Markowski – the festival’s artistic director – wrote the first sentence on the winning installation of the Think! Literature contest, specially displayed on Market Square for the time of the festival: “When I think ‘literature’, it makes me feel really good.” Now we are waiting for your thoughts about the role that literature plays in your life! You are welcome to add them to the installation, displayed just next to Adam Mickiewicz monument, until Sunday (the 28th of October).

Starting today, we can treat ourselves to seven days of the festival’s great literature, including more than sixty meetings with eminent authors from all around the world. The first of these meetings is with the recipient of the prestigious NIKE Literary Award, Marek Bieńczyk, who will discuss his Książka twarzy [The Face Book] with Piotr Mucharski.
