30 November 2012 Professor Jacek Woźniakowski is dead

It is with sadness that we have learned of the death Jacek Woźniakowski – an outstanding Krakow humanist, scientist, writer and man of culture. He was one of the architects of the democratic transformation in Poland and creators of the Krakow self-government. He was the first Mayor of the City of Krakow after 1989, the originator and spiritus movens of many valuable cultural projects and a truly great personage.

Kind, charming and able to communicate freely in several languages, he immediately captured the attention of every interlocutors with his knowledge, wit and exceptional manners. He was always ready to support good ideas gratuitously and willingly engaged in projects promoting Krakow and the Malopolska Region on an international scale.

We will remember Him not only as a great authority who worthily represented our city during meetings of representatives of 9 European Cities of Culture of the year 2000: it was thanks to the Professor that a cycle of events organised in connection with the 100th anniversary of the Dom Pod Jedlami house belonging to his family was included in the Krakow 2000 programme and became known as the Między Wawelem a Giewontem (Between Wawel and Giewont) festival.
