15 February 2013 Ministry of Culture will finance festivals organized by KBF

This year, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage will appropriate the amount of PLN 2,430,000 as a financial aid for festivals organised by the Krakow Festival Office. This has been the highest amount of such aid for the last two years. This year’s subsidy is PLN 275,000 more than a year ago.

This year, the Ministry decided to support financially the following events: the Opera Rara series (the amount of PLN 300,000), the Sacrum Profanum Festival (PLN 600,000), the Grolsch ArtBoom Festival (PLN 200,000) and the Miłosz Festival (PLN 250,000) as well as the Krakow – City of Literature programme (PLN 150,000) and the second Polish Icons project, which will be devoted to Witold Lutosławski’s works this year. The amount of PLN 780,000 will support the budget of the Misteria Paschalia Festival as the last part of the three-year subsidy for years 2011-2013.

‘This is great news for us,’ enthuses Izabela Helbin, Director of the Krakow Festival Office. ‘For years we have made consistent attempts to acquire as many external funds as possible in order to develop and improve our festivals, because we think such an approach to culture is necessary today. We are very happy that our work has been recognised by the Ministry.’

Financial aid will also be provided under a three-year commitment to festivals co-organised by the Krakow Festival Office: the Conrad Festival (organised together with the Tygodnik Powszechny Foundation) will receive PLN 245,000 every year, and the Divine Comedy Festival (organised together with the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre) will be supported by the Ministry with the amount of PLN 400,000 this year and with the amount of PLN 450,000 in the following two years.
