22 November 2013 Cundill Prize for Anne Applebaum

Anne Applebaum, an American writer, journalist and feature writer at The Washington Post, a guest of this year's Conrad Festival, has received the prestigious Cundill Prize for her book Iron Curtain. It is the world’s largest cash prize awarded for a history book (a cheque for 75 thousand dollars) by McGill University in Toronto. The prize, which was launched six years ago, is to promote history books of “literary, social and scientific importance”. Congratulations to Anne Applebaum!

The book Iron Curtain was released last autumn in the US, while in Poland, it was published by Wydawnictwo Świat Książki as Za żelazną kurtyną. Ujarzmienie Europy Wschodniej 1944-1956 in late October of this year.
