5 March 2014 Nominees for Kapuściński Award announced

The nominees for the Ryszard Kapuściński Award – Poland’s most important award for literary reportage have been announced. Nominees include: Mark Danner, Wojciech Jagielski and Filip Springer, who were hosted by the Conrad Festival and the Miłosz Festival.

From among 82 books sent by 27 publishing houses, the Jury – Maciej Zaremba Bielawski (Chairman), Piotr Mitzner, Elżbieta Sawicka, Iwona Smolka and Olga Stanisławska – selected, in Jury’s opinion, ten best last year’s pieces of reportage. As many as five authors among the nominees are Polish, whilst the remaining five come from Sweden, the US and the UK.

Filip Springer, the author of the reportage: Zaczyn. O Zofii i Oskarze Hansenach and Wojciech Jagielski, nominated for his book Trębacz z Tembisy. Droga do Mandeli, were guests of the Conrad Festival, whilst Mark Danner nominated for his Massacre at El Mozote was hosted in Krakow under the Miłosz Festival in 2013.

- Filip Springer, Zaczyn. O Zofii i Oskarze Hansenach (Initiation. About Zofia and Oskar Hansen) - Dionisios Sturis, Grecja. Gorzkie pomarańcze (Greece. Bitter Oranges) - Maciej Wasielewski,Jutro przypłynie królowa (Tomorrow the Queen Sails in)

The top five will be known on 10 April. and the winner will be announced on 23 May at the Warsaw Book Fair.
