21 December 2010 Alameddine for Christmas

Tomorrow in the latest issue of Tygodnik Powszechny a text of Rabih Alameddine, a special guest of the 2nd Joseph Conrad Festival, will be published. On the occasion of the approaching Christmas time, the Lebanese-American writer presents his Christmas story to readers. Last year, as you may remember, a special text was written for Tygodnik Powszechny by Etgar Keret – a guest of the first Conrad Festival.

In Alameddine’s text “I Have No Choice” we can read: “My family has always had a love-hate attitude to Christmas. My sisters loved Christmas, whereas I hated it”. Then he recalls: “My father never wanted to celebrate Christmas. My mother was just the opposite. And she still celebrates Christmas. Every year she decorates the tree only with red items. When she decorates the tree, she keeps repeating that she feels terrible remorse, because the father is dead, and we know that he did not like Christmas”.

The whole text will be available already today in the Christmas issue of Tygodnik Powszechny. We strongly recommend you to read it!
