13 June 2011 Joanna Bator succeeds in Germany!

We already know the six books nominated for the international literary award funded by Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the Elementarteilchen foundation, i.e. the German International Literary Award, Haus der Kulturen der Welt 2011. Among the notable nominees is the German translation of Piaskowa Góra (The Sand Mountain) by Joanna Bator, translated by Esther Kinsky (Suhrkamp Verlag 2011). The book, penned by the Polish author who visited Krakow during the festival, was shortlisted for the finals from among 111 candidates.

The Jury, comprised of renowned literary critics, journalists, translators and writers selected 6 books. They also include items by writers such as José Eduardo Agualusa Barroco tropical, Edwidge Danticat Der verlorene Vater, Mathias Énard Zone, Elias Khoury Yalo and Michail Schischkin Venushaar. The winner will be announced on June 15th, and the awards ceremony will be held on June 29th in Berlin. Fingers crossed for the Polish writer!
