Grzegorz Niziołek

Grzegorz Niziołek

(born 1962) – theatre scholar, literary scholar and academic teacher. Professor at the Jagiellonian University and the AST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow. He deals with the theatre of the 20th and 21st centuries, romantic tradition in Polish theatre, theatre criticism, the latest phenomena in Polish and European theatre, links between theatre and history. His theatre essays were collected in the volume Sny, komedie, medytacje (2000). He has published books devoted to the work of Krystian Lupa and Krzysztof Warlikowski:Sobowtór i utopia. Teatr Krystiana Lupy (1997) and Warlikowski. Extra ecclesiam (2008). He is the author of the monograph Ciało i słowo. Szkice o teatrze Tadeusza Różewicza (2004), as well as the cross-sectional work Polski teatr Zagłady (‘Polish Theatre of the Holocaust’, 2013). He edited the anthologies Dziady. Od Wyspiańskiego do Grzegorzewskiego (1999, with Tadeusz Kornaś) and Zła pamięć. Przeciw-historia w polskim teatrze i dramacie (2012, with Monika Kwaśniewska). Literary director of the Stary Theatre in 2004-2007, originator of the re_wizje festival and artistic director of its first two editions, devoted to contemporary interpretations of romantic and ancient texts. In 2008-2010, artistic director (together with Agata Siwiak) of the Dialogue of Four Cultures Festival in Łódź. Co-founder and editor-in-chief of the theatre magazine Didaskalia. In 2013, he was awarded the Jan Długosz Award for the publication Polski teatr Zagłady.
