Jan Gondowicz

Literary critic, translator. Graduate of the Warsaw University. He debuted in 1971 in the pages of the Warsaw magazine Kultura. In 2006 he received an award granted by the magazine Literatura na Świecie for his translation of Raymond Queneau’s Exercices de style – Ćwiczenia stylistyczne (English edition: Exercises in Style). He has published his sketches, reviews and translations in such magazines as: bruLion, Dialog, Exlibris, Konteksty, Literatura na Świecie, NaGłos, Odra, Res Publica Nowa, Tygodnik Powszechny and Więź. He is the author of an original bestiary entitled Zoologia fantastyczna (Fantastic Zoology), inspired by the works of Jorge Luis Borges. Gondowicz is the author of monographs on Bruno Schulz, Jerzy Nowosielski and Jerzy Duda Gracz. In 2014 the publishing house Nisza printed his book Duch opowieści (The Spirit of Storytelling) comprising 48 commentaries, sketches and literary articles.
