Joanna Oparek

poet, writer, songwriter, playwright. Graduate in psychology from the Jagiellonian University. She debuted in the 1980s in Przekrój with the episode novel Pan Gałązka, czyli jak zamienić kłopoty na gotówkę (Mister Gałązka or how to change troubles into cash). She has been writing lyrics for the rock band Kultura since 1998. She has cooperated with the Old Theatre and the New Theatre in Kraków. Co-founder of the Queer Cultural Centre QCK. Author of four poetry collections, the latest of which, Mocne skóry, białe płótna (Strong skins, white canvases, 2019), was nominated for the Gdynia Literary Award. Her work also includes three books of prose (the last one, entitled Loża [Lodge] was published in 2012) and two drama pieces: Projekt Ameryka (Project America, 2009) and Wężowisko (Snake Pit, 2015).
