Krzysztof Majer

(born 1976) – philologist and translator of English literature. Graduate of the specialisation in translation (literature). Assistant professor at the Department of American Literature at the University of Łódź. He specialises in contemporary North American literature (mainly Canadian). His doctoral dissertation concerned messianic motifs in the late prose of Mordecai Richler. Since 2014, he has been working with the magazine Canadian Literature:A Quarterly of Criticism and Review (University of British Columbia, Vancouver) as a reviewer of scientific and literary publications. In 2015, he was a resident of the Banff International Literary Translation Centre (Canada) with the authors whose works he translated, Rawi Hage and Madeleine Thien. He has twice received the Literatura na ŚwiecieAward: in 2015 for the translation of Allen Ginsberg’s Letters and in 2017 for the translation of Michael Herr’s Dispatches (nominated for the Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński Award and the Gdynia Literary Award). For translating fragments of Andrzej Stasiuk’s Kucając into English, he received second prize in the 2016 John Dryden Translation Competition, organised by the British Comparative Literature Association and the British Centre for Literary Translation. He was the editor of one issue of Literatura na Świecie (New Canada).
