Maciej Świerkocki

(b. 1961) – translator of English-language literature, writer, scriptwriter and literary critic. He holds a PhD in Humanities. Graduated in English philology and philosophy from the University of Łódź. In the years 1987-2011 he was a lecturer at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Łódź. Author of five novels and nearly 70 translations of books from English. Cooperates with „Odra”, „Literatura na świecie” and other literary magazines. The initiator and co-editor (jointly with Jerzy Jarniewicz) of the literary series Twarze kontrkultury (Wydawnictwo Officyna). A member of the Association of Polish Writers and of the Polish Film Academy, a honorary member of the Association of Literary Translators. Member of the jury of the literary competition International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award (2014). Decorated with the Gloria Artis Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture (2014), the medal of merit for the city of Łódź and other distinctions (2015). Currently works on a new translations on James Joyce’sUlysses.
