Magdalena Heydel

(born 1969) – translator of English literature, she has translated works by Joseph Conrad, T.S. Eliot, Seamus Heaney, Ted Hughes, Katherine Mansfield, Sinéad Morrissey, Alice Oswald, Derek Walcott, Virginia Woolf and Roald Dahl. A Polish scholar and an English teacher, professor at the Jagiellonian University, she is the head of the Translation Research Centre and master’s studies in Literary and Cultural Translation at the Faculty of Polish Studies. Editor in chief of Przekładaniec. A Journal of Translation Studies. Fulbright scholar of the Foundation for Polish Science and the Fulbright Foundation. Member of the board of the Polish PEN Club and honorary member of the Association of Literature Translators. Curator of the Gdańsk Literary Meetings “Found in Translation”. Two-time winner of the “Literatura na Świecie” award, nominated for the European Poet of Freedom Literary Award of the City of Gdańsk. She regularly contributes to Tygodnik Powszechny.
