Polish poet and the artistic director of the Opowiadania International Festival in Wrocław, which is one of the most interesting and the most quickly developing literary events devoted to short stories. He edited a number of novels for the Czarne publishing house, including Niehalo by Ignacy Karpowicz and Dziewczyna z Buenos Aires [A Girl from Buenos Aires] by Anna Kamieniecka; he was formerly the chief editor of Odra and Orda monthlies. In his volumes Limes (1996), Weiter weiter (1999) and Nagrałem mu się [I Recorded Myself for Him] (2006) he has consistently developed his consciously ironic style that heavily draws upon unlimited resources of spoken language and is extremely sensitive to everyday reality. He is the husband of Agnieszka Wolny-Hamkało – poet and popular literary critic (Gazeta Wyborcza, Przekrój, the portal of the Polish Radio). On 23rd October in The Pod Baranami Palace Marcin Hamkało will take part in a meeting Literature on the border. Poetry as a medium.
