Michał Rusinek

A literary expert, lecturer at the Department of Polish Language and Literature of the Jagiellonian University, translator, author of humorous poems, children books, and song lyrics. In the years 1997–2012, a secretary to Wisława Szymborska. The guardian of the poet’s archive and the chairman of the foundation of her name. He dedicated his doctor’s thesis entitled Między retoryką i retorycznością (2003) to the significance and role of rhetoric in present times. Together with Aneta Zalazińska, he authored popular self-help books Retoryka podręczna. Czyli jak wnikliwie słuchać i przekonująco mówić (2007) and Retoryka codzienna. Poradnik nie tylko językowy (2010). Michał Rusinek is interested in children’s linguistic invention and imagination. Based on anecdotes sent by readers, he has published two books Jak przeklinać? Poradnik dla dzieci (2008) and Jak robić przekręty? Poradnik dla dzieci (2010). He published a pastiche of the fairy-tale about Cinderella set in the contemporary reality (2006). On the occasion of the Chopin year, in 2009, he published a rhyming account of the composer’s youth years entitled Mały Chopin. It has been translated into ten languages, including Chinese and Japanese. He is also a co-author of the crime novel entitled Prowincjonalne zagadki kryminalne (2006, in cooperation with Antonina Turnau) and a volume of memoirs Kiedy byłem mały. Kiedy byłam mała (2010, in cooperation with Joanna Olech). He also published a tome entitled Limeryki (2006). He has translated many a volume of classical literature for children, among others A. A. Milne (less known texts from the author of Winnie-the-Pooh), Michael Bond (Paddington Bear Series), Charles M. Schulz (Peanuts and Snoopy). He translates scientific papers and song lyrics. He is an author and co-author of lyrics on records by Grzegorz Turnau 11:11 (2005) and Dorota Miśkiewicz Caminho (2009). He has created names for genres of humorous poems created within the circle of Wisława Szymborska’s friends – lepieje and moskaliki.
