Cultural anthropologist; she received her doctoral degree in humanities at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. Author of Zaraza. Since 1996, she has been the head of the Czarne Publishing House. For her book Fałszerze Pieprzu, she received the Maria and Łukasz Hirszowicz Award, the Literary Award of the City of Radom and the Jerzy Turowicz Award. She was also honoured by the Polcul Foundation for her social activity, publishing and popularisation of reading, as well as nominated for the Ryszard Kapuściński Award (2017), the Nike Literary Award, the Silesian Literary Laurel Award and the Angelus Central European Literary Award. Born in Warsaw, she has been living in Beskid Niski for over thirty years.
