Lena Kitsopoulou’s collection of stories Bats and Amanda Michalopoulou’s novel Why I Killed My Best Friend are important studies into human relationships – between friends, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives – placed in a broad social context of neighbourhoods, school playgrounds and political scenes. They bear the weight of Greek tragedies and the fate of the protagonists is doomed. Only readers stand something to gain by experiencing catharsis. The texts are brought to the public, with theatre actors reading Polish translations of Kitsopoulou’s story Athens. 9 December and excerpts from Michalopoulou’s Why I Killed My Best Friend, while the authors read from their books in the original Greek.

Reading: Filip Bochenek, Lena Kitsopoulou, Anna Kończal, Amanda Michalopoulou, Urszula Tylek
