Dreams That Money Can Buy,

Dreams That Money Can Buy,

USA, 1946, direction: Hans Richter
This is one of the most important films documenting the period of the first avant-garde, consisting of seven episodes combined into a whole by Hans Richter. The first episode is a miniature costume drama, whose author is Max Ernst, the film’s co-director and co-author of the screenplay. The subsequent ones were produced by Fernand Léger, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, and Alexander Kalder. The last part, directed by Richter himself, presents a man combining the individual episodes. Although the film is already 70 years old, it is still considered to be one of the leading pictures presenting avant-garde artists, whose then-innovative ideas had an enormous influence on later cinematography.
The event accompanies the Lover of Imagination exhibition.
