Emancipated | Dzido | Sarnowska

Emancipated | Dzido | Sarnowska

Marta Dzido’s literary and film works form a multi-layered tale about the emancipation of women, one that not only relates the historical struggles of the suffragettes and successive generations of feminists, but which today also constitutes a part of every woman’s experience. The writer fights, first and foremost, to change the social norms governing the treatment of a woman’s body, a theme that takes centre stage in her stories. The female body has its reasons and needs. It demands attention and tenderness, acceptance and fulfilment. It deserves respect, which has been denied to it for far too long. Dzido claims that no revolution in how the body is treated can take place before the language we use to refer to sensuality changes. We will talk to the writer and director about the positive effects of breaking the taboo surrounding women’s sexuality, and discuss how literature can help in the fight to ensure freedom of desire and freedom of choice.
