Herz aus Glas (1976) 94'

Herz aus Glas (1976) 94'

dir. Werner Herzog
The action of the film based on the second chapter of Herbert Achternbusch’s novel entitled Die Stunde des Todes is set in a small town in Bavaria. Along with the passing away of the owner of glassworks, the residents lose the formula for ruby glass and gradually slide into stagnation and hopelessness. Shepherd Hias is haunted with the visions of destruction and ruination of the village whereas the new owner of the glassworks does not give up on his attempts at finding the lost formula and is driven to ever crazier ploys. It was among others due to the use of hypnosis on all the actors with the exception of the starring actor that the film has gained the reputation of one of the most dreamlike and out-of-ordinary in the history of cinema.
