Stories of the Harmed | Arendt | Hobson
Stories of the Harmed | Arendt | Hobson
There is no one story that encapsulates the experience of all Native Americans. Each ethnic group has its own history, determined not only by particular experiences but also by culture. The Cherokee writer Brandon Hobson is the voice of his people. He tells us about young people whose fate constantly depends on the institutions that are part of the system established by the occupiers. The Cherokee people were displaced from their lands and many attempts have been made to eradicate them at all cost. Many years after those events, Cherokee children are still trying to find their place on earth, or, rather, being shunted from one foster family to another, are desperately trying to keep their heads above water. For Hobson, one source of shelter is literature – the only safe haven for the displaced and the only remedy for still gaping wounds.
