Michel Faber once said that most writers draw their inspiration from childhood memories, because that is when emotions are the strongest. In his case, however, it is different: the author openly admits that his memory is very faulty, and so he must constantly reinvent everything from scratch in his books. That is how his stories are created, that is how strange new things come to be.
