“My problem with classifications is that they are fleeting. As soon as I’ve completed the task, the order is no longer valid,” wrote Georges Perec in one of his essays. In the margins of the Polish edition of Alberto Manguel and Gianni Guadalupi’s Dictionary of Imaginary Places, in which Kafka’s The Castle stands next to Kołakowski’s Lailonia and Calvino’s Invisible Cities, we will discuss ways of classifying and describing things which have frequently been only thought, so that this classification remains fresh and current and inspires thinking in decades to come.
