Why do I (dis) like Joseph Conrad?

Why do I (dis) like Joseph Conrad?

Discussion: Agata Bielik-Robson, Ryszard Koziołek, Paweł Panas

Host: Michał Paweł Markowski

The Nigerian prose writer Chinua Achebe accused Conrad that he had presented a racist image of African residents in Heart of Darkness. Edward Said believed that Conrad’s prose followed along the lines of an imperialistic discourse. In turn, the Ugandan writer Peter Nazareth argued that Conrad had contributed to the fall of colonies with his masterly prose. How do Polish experts of Conrad’s works read his narratives? What do they value him for? What weaknesses do they see in his creations?
