28 September 2012 Book installations – the choice has been made!
Think: Literature, the competition organised in the framework of the upcoming 4th edition of the Conrad Festival, is now over. Winners were chosen by a jury including Magdalena Sroka, Deputy Mayor of Krakow in charge of Culture and the Promotion of the City; Aleksander Kardyś, President of the Tygodnik Powszechny Foundation; Grzegorz Jankowicz, Executive Director of the Conrad Festival; Małgorzata Gołębiewska, Artistic Director of the Grolsch ArtBoom Festival; Izabela Helbin, Director of the Krakow Festival Office; and Robert Niessner, president of Prodesigne. Natalia Balska was awarded for her indoor installation project Brzeg (Shore); the jury appreciated its form which becomes content, and content which has form. Iga Niedbał-Burzak and Marta Niedbał outshined the competition in the outdoor category with Zapisz słowo (Write the Word), gaining praises for compliance with the criteria, feasibility and interactivity. Before the projects can be admired at the Conrad Festival, you are invited to watch their visualisations.

A reminder: the competition entitled Think: Literature was created to bring books out of libraries, with which they are usually associated, into the streets. We waited for designs of original installations inspired by books, which could be set up in public space. The submitted projects fell into two categories: indoor (the installation will be displayed in one of the festival’s bookstores) and outdoor (the installation will be displayed on the Market Square in Krakow). In assessing the entries, the jury awarded points for addressing the specific nature of the place, the possibility of interaction with the viewer, the project's interdisciplinary nature and innovativeness. The following documents had to be attached: the author’s portfolio, the visualisation of the design in a particular space, a short description and technical specification, a description of how the project would be carried out, and a justification of the choice of the particular display site.
Winners will receive, respectively: PLN 3,000 (in the outdoor category) and PLN 2,000 (in the indoor category) for the completion of their designs and their presentation during the Conrad Festival.
