10 December 2012 The 100th anniversary of Turowicz’s birth

"Without him, nothing would be the same. We wouldn’t be holding a new issue of Tygodnik Powszechny, there would be no legend of the paper," says the editorial in Tygodnik Powszechny remembering Jerzy Turowicz, its Editor-in-Chief of many years. Today, on the 10th anniversary of his birthday, at 11.30 a.m., a commemorative plaque will be unveiled on the house at Lenartowicza 3, where Turowicz lived from 1945 to 1999. At 5 p.m. Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz will celebrate a mass at St. Ann’s Church, and at 6 p.m., the Session Chamber of the Krakow City Hall will be the venue of the promotion of the book Krąg Turowicza. Tygodnik, czasy, ludzie. 1945-1999 (Turowicz’s Circle. Tygodnik, Times, People. 1945-1999) by Witold Bereś, Krzysztof Burnetko and Joanna Podsadecka.

A postal stand is to be opened at the City Hall, offering an opportunity to buy a stamp commemorating Jerzy Turowicz and receive a commemorative date stamp.

We strongly encourage you to read a special insert to Tygodnik Powszechny devoted to Jerzy Turowicz.
