24 August 2011 The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad staged in Teatr Stary

One of the autumn premiers for the season 2011/2012 in Krakow’s Teatr Stary is The Secret Agent by Jan Klata. The script, written by Klata (director) and Sebastian Majewski (playwright), combines the themes of two novels by Conrad: Under Western Eyes and The Secret Agent.

The Secret Agent is based on Conrad’s novel and is directed by Klata. It will premiere on the 1st of October. Stage design was prepared by Justyna Łagowska, and the main parts are taken by Katarzyna Krzanowska, Ewa Kaim, Małgorzata Gałkowska, Anna Radwan-Gancarczyk, Juliusz Chrząstowski, Krzysztof Globisz, Mieczysław Grąbka, Zbigniew W. Kaleta, Wiktor Loga-Skarczewski, Jacek Romanowski and Jerzy Grałek.

According to the announcement of the premiere of the show on the website of the Narodowy Teatr Stary: Conrad sceptically, if not with terror, looks at the anarchic fever, terrorists’ methods in the fight against the system, ruthlessness of terrorists and cynicism of the secret service. What do we really know about the inside story and reasons behind human actions? Who is an idealistic rebel and who an offender and traitor? Is the common good of humanity only a phantasm?
