Kristian Novak

(born in 1979) is a writer of Croatian descent, and former member of the Croatian national karate team. Scholar of Croatian and German studies, as well as linguistics. Teacher at the University of Rijeka, author of three novels, one of which – Dark Mother Earth (2013) was published in Poland in 2020. That book brought him acclaim in his home country and an award for best novel of the year. Dark Mother Earth was also dubbed one of the ten best Croatian books of the last five decades. His works have been adapted for the stage and film.
