Peter Hamm

Peter Hamm

German director, writer and literary critic. He is the creator of film portraits of such figures as Ingeborg Bachmann, Heinrich Böll, Robert Walser, Peter Handke and Hans Werner Henze. He was an editor at a Bavarian radio station and participant in the programme The Literary Club on Swiss television. He is Vice-President of the German Language and Literary Academy, a member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts and a juror for many literary prizes. He published a volume of poems Die verschwiendete Welt (The Disappearing World) and literary essays, e.g. Der Wille zur Ohnmacht (The Will of Helplessness, 1992), Aus der Gegengeschichte (Chronicles of Anti-History, 1997), and Die Kunst des Unmöglichen oder Jedes Ding hat (mindestens) drei Seiten (The Art of the Impossible. Essays on Literature, 2007). At the 2nd Conrad Festival, he took part in a discussion entitled: Akin By Choice: Bachmann-Celan.
