Pilar Adón

Born in Madrid in 1971, she is a writer, essayist, poet and translator, who translated works by Penelope Fitzgerald, John Fowles, Henry James, Edith Wharton, and Joan Lindsay, in particular her Picnic at Hanging Rock. Co-founder of the Impedimenta publishing house. She graduated in law from the Complutense University of Madrid. She received her first literary award at the age of 18. She has published novels Las ef í meras, Las hijas de Sara, Eterno amor; collections of short stories La vida sumergida, El mes más cruel and Viajes inocentes ; and collections of poetry: Da dolor, Las órdenes (translated by Paweł Orzeł, to be released), Mente animal and La hija del cazador. She is considered one of the most important contemporary Spanish authors. Her works were translated into English, French, Serbian, Romanian, Czech, Albanian and Korean.

Her novel Of Beasts and Fowls  (De bestias y aves, 2022, released in Poland by PIW in 2024, translated by Katarzyna Okrasko) has been showered with accolades, including the Premio Nacional de Narrativa, the most important state award in Spain. It was Adón's first book translated into Polish.
