Cultural Choreography: Harnessing Zeitgeist to Make Media (How to Know What’s Coming Next in Media and Capitalize on it)
Earlier thinkers referred to the code underlying a particular period of time as Zeitgeist. This lecture explores a method for sensing and describing Zeitgeist and posits that the books, films, songs, and other cultural products that resonate best with audiences are those that resonate most with Zeitgeist. Such cultural products share an analogous emotional choreography, analogous forms of moving audiences. Once we understand these forms, it is easy to use them to translate across cultural media, from books and films to software products and perfumes. This lecture will demonstrate how this works using real-life examples drawn from collaborations with authors, publishers, and production houses.
