Literary Spaces or Museums? | Hamkało | Kloska | Topol

Literary Spaces or Museums? | Hamkało | Kloska | Topol

Discussion: Marcin Hamkało, Szymon Kloska, Jáchym Topol

Host: Marcin Wilk

What are houses of literature and what role do they play in cities? What problems do these institutions face and how should they be financed? How can they combine encouraging visitors with providing a high quality offering? We will discuss how to ensure that centres responsible for shaping cities’ cultural landscapes don’t become half-forgotten elements of the scenery. We will also search for the best formula for the functioning of such institutions and present positive examples from Poland and abroad. We will take a close look at the Pan Tadeusz Museum in Wrocław, the Planet Lem Centre of Literature and Language currently under development in Kraków, and the Václav Havel Library in Prague. We will also provide suggestions for creating virtual spaces and making the most of state-of-the-art technologies. The meeting will feature a short presentation by the JEMS Architects studio, architectural designers of the Planet Lem Centre of Literature and Language in Kraków, explaining how they translate strategies into real architectural designs.
