Presentation of books translated from Spanish
Presentation of books translated from Spanish
Join us for a presentation of a dozen books translated from Spanish. In recent years, a number of titles from Spain and Hispanic America have been published: classics that have been waiting for a Polish translation for years (Mr President by Nobel Prize winner Miguel Angel Asturias), reckonings with violence in recent history (which can also be seen in comic books), disturbing visions on the fringes of familiar worlds, detective stories and horror stories with a second meaning.
Well-known translators, researchers and publishers will present books recently translated from Spanish into Polish, which they consider to be particularly interesting, as well as those that would be worth translating. Two acclaimed Spanish authors Pilar Adón and Sara Mesa, guests of the Conrad Festival (a meeting with the authors will also take place on 26 October at the Potocki Palace), will also present their suggestions.
A short presentation of the book will be accompanied by a performative reading of a selected passage (read by students from the Institute of Romance Studies of the Jagiellonian University).
Meeting in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation.
Guests:
Pilar Adón - Spanish writer, author of the novel O bestiach i ptakach, PIW, translated by Katarzyna Okrasko.
Sara Mesa - Spanish writer, author of the novel Taa miłość, which will be published this year by Glowbook, translated by Ewa Zaleska.
Xavier Farr - Iberian Studies scholar, translator, poet, professor.
Adriana Jastrzębska - Iberian Studies scholar, professor.

Marta Szafrańska-Brandt - translator
