In the context of this year's Conrad Festival, the figure of Przybyszewski is particularly important. The author witnessed and participated in the end of one cultural order and the birth of a new one. The work of the leader of Polish Modernism can be read as a response to the crisis of values at the turn of the 20th century - a moment when the previous ways of understanding the world no longer sufficed.
The meeting will address the most important topics related to the work of the 'messiah of new literature' (as the Germans called him), including the falsification of the myths associated with the writer's life, his functioning in Polish and German literature, the concepts of the art of the 'naked soul' and androgynous love, ethical and religious issues, the proximity of genius and madness, psychopathological heroes, the origins of views of Freud and Jung and trends in 20th century literature and art.
Fragments of Przybyszewski's works will be brought to life by Radosław Krzyżowski, a prominent Krakow actor.
The meeting is organised on the occasion of a unique event - the completion of the publication of an eleven-volume edition of Dzieła literackie by the Jagiellonian University Publishing House.
