Literature about the end of the world rarely lingers solely on images of destruction. It is more interested in what comes afterward – how everyday life unfolds in the shadow of catastrophe and how our thinking about… everything changes. After a great collapse comes a time for ordinary things, which sometimes need to be reimagined. Stories of the apocalypse help us name major contemporary anxieties and talk about them; they act as a kind of laboratory. Can fiction prepare us for a real end of the world, and is it still possible to imagine anything beyond it?
