We often speak of what matters most in whispers – or not at all. Yet there comes a moment when we notice a change: the person in the mirror seems a stranger, the body no longer obeys, familiar solutions stop working, and we are surprised by our own new preferences. We are never truly ready for illness, aging, or death, though literature persistently reminds us of them. The writers participating in this event explore the weakening body, the moment of departure, fear mingled with tenderness. Their books remind us that extremes cannot be pushed aside. But can literature make us stop fearing them?
