Why do we need the classics? | Szymon Kloska, Anna Marchewka

Every year, more than 33,000 new books are released in Poland. Many of them are specialised, low-volume and occasional publications, but that does not change the fact that booksellers have their hands full when it comes to recommending worthwhile titles, and readers have a hard time selecting books that are really worth their while. The life of a book in public debate is also becoming shorter and shorter - after a few months, new publications simply fall off and nobody ever talks about them. Is there any clever solution to this problem? How do we promote the classics - books that are often old, but still good? What exactly is a classic and who decides which books are considered to be classics? We will talk about the classics with Szymon Kloska and Anna Marchewka, editors of the Dziennik Literacki portal, at a veritable temple of old books and prints - the Abecadło Antique Bookstore. The discussion will be led by Krzysztof Żwirski.
