31 August 2012 Think: Literature! and design a book installation
Are you creative? Do you like designing? Do you have interesting and unconventional ideas? And above all – do you love books? If so, then the Think: Literature! competition is perfect for you! In connection with the 4th edition of the Conrad Festival (the 22nd-28th of October), we would like to encourage all artists: let’s take books to the streets together, in order for them to be associated with something more than just libraries. We are waiting for designs of original installations inspired by books and feasible in the public space. We will present the most interesting ideas during the festival on the streets of Krakow and in the festival bookstores. We are waiting for your applications until the 21st of September 2012 at pomysl@conradfestival.pl. Winners will be announced four days later (on the 25th of September). Important: the authors of the winning projects will receive money to complete them.
You can submit your works in two categories: indoor (the installation will be exhibited in one of the festival bookstores) and outdoor (the installation will be presented in the Krakow Market Square). “We are waiting for fresh and original ideas,” says Izabela Helbin, director of the Krakow Festival Office. “Evaluating the designs, we will award: how well they match the nature and the specificity of the place, the possibility to interact with the audience, their interdisciplinary nature, and their innovative nature. We would also like the projects to be strongly connected with the central theme of the competition and the Conrad Festival. We encourage: Think: Literature!”
When submitting the project, you should attach: the author’s portfolio, the visualisation of the project in a specific space, a short factual description, and a technical specification, as well as a description of the completion process, and a substantiation of the choice of the location.
The jury comprising artists and writers will select two winners from among all of the works submitted by the 21st of September. They will receive PLN 3,000 (in the outdoor category) and PLN 2,000 (in the indoor category) respectively, to complete their designs and present them during the Conrad Festival.
