14 January 2014 Karakter and Filip Springer distinguished by Sukces!
Sukces magazine has prepared an unusual list – the TOP TEN list of Polish architecture in 2013. As the ranking’s author, Marcin Szczelina, writes, “it was a strange, but a good year for Polish architecture. It was talked about mostly not because of architects, but because of an artist and a reporter”. Filip Springer – a guest of this year’s Conrad Festival – was selected the Author of the Year (for his books Wanna z kolumnadą. Reportaże o polskiej przestrzeni and Zaczyn. O Zofii i Oskarze Hansenach), and our partner, Karakter – the Best Publishing House! Congratulations!
“Springer also published a brilliant book, Zaczyn, about a couple of the greatest architectural visionaries (but also utopians) of the Polish People’s Republic, i.e. Oskar and Zofia Hansen. He is the number one author writing about architecture” – reads the justification of the distinction for Filip Springer.
Distinguishing Karakter, Marcin Szczelina wrote: “Last year favoured reflection. It was encouraged by great books beautifully designed and published by Krakow’s Karakter publishing house, including Venturi, Brown and Izenour’s Learning from Las Vegas and Rem Koolhaas’ Delirious New York – some of the most important books in the world, without which it is difficult to understand architecture in our postmodern world.
