29 March 2011 Zeszyty Literackie on Heart-Time, correspondence between Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan
In the latest issue (113) of Zeszyty Literackie, apart from new poems by Julia Hartwig and Tomas Venclova, as well as a fragment of Adam Zagajewski’s book Lekka przesada (Slight exaggeration), which is being made ready for printing, we find Anna Arno’s thorough review dedicated to the correspondence between Ingeborg Bachmann and Paul Celan from a volume entitled Heart-Time. This amazing book, translated into Polish by Małgorzata Łukasiewicz, gave rise to numerous discussions during the 2nd International Joseph Conrad Literature Festival.
The Zeszyty Literackie quarterly was founded in Paris in 1982. The first issue was published in January 1983, and the magazine has been published in Poland since 1990 and its editorial office moved to Warsaw in 1992. Zeszyty Literackie Foundation has been the publisher of Zeszyty Literackie since the 1st of April 2005. The quarterly publishes works by Czesław Miłosz, Kazimierz Brandys, Józef Czapski, Paweł Hertz, Konstanty A. Jeleński, Jan Kott, Leszek Kołakowski. Finding and printing of previously unpublished works by Witold Gombrowicz, Zbigniew Herbert, Jerzy Stemplowski and Aleksander Wat constitutes a separate activity of Zeszyty Literackie. The quarterly also tries to accompany the youngest Polish literature by announcing works by debutants. Through popularisation of the world literature Zeszyty Literackie promotes exemplary translations (the Presentations and Translator’s Workshop sections) and publish translations of literary works made by Stanisław Barańczak, Joanna Gunze, Paweł Hertz and Halina Kralowa.
