Christine Angot

Christine Angot

Novelist and playwright. She studied public international law in Reims, followed up at  the College of Europe in Bruges, but eventually decided to focus on literature. In 1990, after six years of searching for a publisher, she released her first zVu du ciel. She rose to fame in 1999 with her book L'Inceste , which sold 50,000 copies. She dared to break the taboo, making it the main subject of her work. In her novels she repeatedly refers to her own experiences, which is why – contrary to her opinion - her work is considered self-fiction. She wrote more than twenty novels, as well as more than a dozen plays, which she enjoys reading in theatres. In France, she considered an important media figure commenting on political events on television programs, and her views often spark debates. She is a regular contributor to Libération, occasionally she also publishes her texts in Le Monde, Télérama, Le Point, and Le Nouvel Observateur. She has won many important literary prizes, including Prix de Flore, Prix Décembre, Prix Médicis, and Prix des Inrockuptibles).

She joined the ranks of the Goncourt Academy in February 2023.

One of her books was published in Polish:

2005 - L’inceste, translated by Ewa Wieleżyńska, W.A.B.
