Didier Decoin

French writer and screenwriter, laureate of the 1977 Prix Goncourt for his novel John l'enfer (Hell John). His articles were published in popular magazines, including France Soir, Le Figaro and Les Nouvelles littéraires; what is more, he also worked with Europe 1 radio station. As an avid sailor, he wrote a column for Neptune Moteur for many years. He made his debut as a writer at the age of twenty with Le Procès à l'amour. Since then, he has published some thirty novels, as well as numerous collections of essays. He spent the majority of his professional career working with television as an author of numerous original screenplays and adaptations. For more than two years, he headed France 2’s feature department. He also co-wrote the script for Hors la vie, which brought him a special Jury Award at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival. In 1999, he received the Sept d'Or Award for best screenplay for a TV miniseries based on The Count of Monte Christo. Former two-time President of the Société des gens de lettres de France, one of the founders of SCAM – Société civile des auteurs multimédia. He lives in Normandy.

Member of the Goncourt Academy since June 1995, President since 20 January 2020.
