Gerard Piasecki
A mechanic from Krakow who found in 2009 in a heap of paper scraps carried away 10 years ago from the attic of his family home in Wieliczka a pre-war copybook with drawings of Ryszard Apte – a universally talented writer, musician and plastic artist who died during the war at the age of less than 20 years. The copybook contained drawings that were carefully arranged to form a cycle Niepokój (Unrest). Created in years 1939-1942, those illustrations are an extremely intense expression of horror caused by the approaching time of the Annihilation. A facsimile of his cycle Niepokój (Unrest), together with a fictionalised biography of the young artist written by Piotr Głuchowski and Marcin Kowalski Apte. Niedokończona powieść (Apte. An Unfinished Novel), was published in 2010 by the Ha!art publishing house. Gerard Piasecki will be a guest of the meeting devoted to this unique publication, which will be held in the Book Fair in Krakow – 7 November (Sunday), at 3.00 p.m. (ul. Centralna 41a).
