Hanna Jankowska

Graduate of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences and International Studies at the University of Warsaw. She worked as a translator in Polish and Arabian diplomatic posts in Tripoli and Warsaw. Since 1995, she has been a freelance literary and audiovisual translator. She translates mainly non-fiction works and essays from English and contemporary prose, sometimes poetry, from Arabic. In 1997, she received an award of the Association of Polish Translators in the Essay category for her translation of The Clash of Civilisations by Samuel P. Huntington. She translated works by such English authors as Benjamin Barber, Tony Judt, Naomi Klein, Albert Manguel, Anthony Shadid and Michael Walzer. Her translations from Arabic include works by such outstanding writers as Murid al-Barghusi, Iljas Churi, Gamal al-Ghitani, Emil Habibi, Ghada as-Samman and Hanan al-Shaykh. She has also translated poems by Mahmoud Darwish and other Palestinian poets and works by Iraqi poet Hatif Al-Janabi.  Member of the Polish Literary Translators’ Association.
