Jáchym Topol
(born 1962) – prose writer, poet, playwright, reportage author, columnist, translator of Vietnamese poetry and songwriter. One of the most important Czech artists of his generation. His novels Sestra (City Sister Silver), Anděl (Angel), Cesta do Bugulmy, Kloktat dehet (Gargling with Tar), Chladnou zemí (The Devil’s Workshop) and Noční práce (Nightwork), the book Supermarket sovětských hrdinů and the collection of poems Miluju tě k zbláznění have been published in Poland. Winner of many literary awards, including the Egon Hostovski Prize and the Jaroslav Seifert Prize. For his latest novel, Citlivý člověk, he received the most important Czech literary award – the Czech State Prize for Literature. For many years he has been working as program director of the Václav Havel Library in Prague.
