Jan Burzyński

Graduate of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw, translator, he translated book such as Samuel Weber’s Theatricality as Medium (2009), Graham Saunders’ Love Me or Kill Me: Sarah Kane and the Theatre of Extremes (2010), Walter Benn Michaels’ The Shape of the Signifier: 1967 to the End of History (2011) into Polish, he is now translating Małgorzata Kowalska’s book Dialektyka poza dialektyką into English; co-author (with Maciej Czeszewski) of Nowe wyrazy w natarciu (2013; in print); dramatist, author of the script and dramatic production of theatre performances of Bańka mydlana (Gustaw Holoubek Drama Theatre, Warsaw, 2010; small stage, dir. by Andrzej Pakuła) and UtØpia (Polski Theatre, Poznań, 2012; large stage), and the film §1000 (Bunkier Sztuki, Kraków, dir. by Anna Baumgart), author of music for the performances of Astma (Maski Theatre Festival, Poznań, 2009) and Bańka mydlana; co-editor (with Prof. Mirosław Bańko and Maciej Czeszewski) and columnist of Obserwatorium Językowe Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego; social activist at the “Warszawa Społeczna“ association, combating inequality on the job market and in education. In the association, he deals primarily with the organisation of protests, intervention meetings, and relations with educational institutions, and takes part in the sessions of district councils and the city council. Together with Seweryn Blumsztajn, Michał Sutowski and Maciej Urbanowski, Jan Burzyński will participate in a discussion about generations.
