Jan Němec

(born 1981 in Brno) – Czech writer, editor and director, graduated from the Masaryk University in Brno and the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts. He debuted in 2007 with a poetry book První život, followed by a book of short-stories Hra pro čtyři ruce (Playing Four Hands, 2009). His biographical novel about the life and works of the genius Czech photographer František Drtikol, entitled A History of Light (Dějiny světla), won him the European Union Prize for Literature 2014 and the Czech Book Award 2014. He was also shortlisted for Magnesia Litera in the Prose category (2014) and for Josef Škvorecký Prize (2014).
