
Joanna Ostrowska

PhD in history, she studied at the Institute of Audiovisual Arts and the Institute of Jewish Studies at the Jagiellonian University, Gender Studies and the Department of Hebrew Studies at the University of Warsaw and at the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź. Academic lecturer, film critic, playwright. Author of the book Przemilczane. Seksualna praca przymusowa w czasie II wojny światowej (Silenced. Forced Sexual Labour during World War II, 2018), for which she was awarded the prestigious Mauthausen-Memorial-Forschungspreis. In 2021, she was awarded the Orfeo Iris ILGCN (International Rainbow Culture Network) award for her research and publications on the history of non-heteronormative people during World War II.
