Kateřina Tučková

Kateřina Tučková

Czech writer and curator of exhibitions; graduated from history of art and Czech studies at Masaryk University in Brno; she has recently gained a PhD in history of art. For her debut novel Vyhnání Gerty Schnirch (The Expulsion of Gerta Schnirch, 2009) on expulsion of the Brno Germans, she received the Readers' Award of Magnesia Litera. Her second novel Žitkovské bohyně (The Goddesses of Žítková, 2012) brought her many prizes (among them the Josef Škvorecki Award, a title of the Czech Bestseller 2012, the Readers' Award – Magnesia Litera, the Readers' Award – Česká Kniha) and made her the best-selling Czech writer of recent years. Kateřina Tučková combines in a unique way features of a meticulous researcher buried in documents and a creator of colourful protagonists whose fates – sometimes real, sometimes imaginary, but always fascinating – are set against the background of the Czech and Moravian true history.
