Kiran Desai

Born in India, lived in Great Britain, and later settled in the USA with her family. Daughter of writer Anita Desai, whom she considers to be a great literary authority. She was noticed thanks to a short story featured in the Mirrorwork: 50 Years of Indian Writing 1947-1997 anthology. She gave up her studies in New York to write her debut novel Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard (1998), which was acclaimed by critics and readers alike. In 2006, she received the National Book Critics Circle Fiction Award and the Man Booker Prize for her second book The Inheritance of Loss, thus becoming the youngest person to win the Prize.
